AB 2998, Bloom. Consumer products: flame retardant materials.

Effective Jan. 1, 2020, California’s new flame-retardant standard for furniture and bedding, known as California Assembly AB 2998, prohibits the sale and distribution of juvenile products, upholstered furniture, replacement components of reupholstered furniture, including the foam in mattresses that contain covered flame-retardant chemicals at levels above 1,000 parts per million in California.

Furthermore, a dozen states have passed over two dozen policies banning flame retardants. Maine’s new law phases out all flame-retardant chemicals in residential upholstered furniture.

In response to increased requests for more environmentally-friendly products, Lucid Textiles has been working to remove flame-retardant additives from product lines within our Lucid Upholstery portfolio.
